I bought mine used three years ago and it works great. It works for a Metallica, Pantera type sound. You can also get good rock sounds with the gain turned down and eq. adjusted.

I am amazed at the price of this pedal, it could easily list for much more for what it does. The ability to tweak the EQ of the distortion allows me to ‘tune’ the sound and mimic the Metallicia sound as well as the Pantera sound in one pedal. Boutique pedals have nothing on this pedal.

this product changed my attitude towards playing guitar. i think mine is 3 years old and the only problem is that it doesn’t work well with batteries at all. trust me use an AC adapter it will make it sound better. however it doesn’t work good with small amps, in fact, it even controlled what my old marshall did. it will make a difference on any guitar u try, and i love how i can make so many EQ settings. i got mine at guitar center, don’t bother buying it online as i found its hard to get it that way.

This pedal delivers what it promises – Metal! The versatility and sound quality make this pedal a must-have for anyone playing on the heavier side. Combined with typical Boss bullet-proof construction and reliability, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to add awesome crunch to any setup.

Note that this pedal is meant to be used with an amp that is on a clean setting. The pedal is meant for playing metal (like Metallica), or metal-ish punk rock (like Pennywise, Strung Out, The Offspring). It does this very well. If you don’t want to buy a tube amp like a Peavey 6505 or a Mesa Boogie, this pedal will get you pretty close for far less money. Of course nothing is better than a real tube amp, but this pedal is pretty cool. I combine mine with a $400 65-watt solid state amp and I love it. The EQ is very flexible, letting you dial in just about any sound you could want. The gain is adjustable too, so you can dial in more of a standard rock sound if you want. Boss pedals are extremely well built, known for lasting typically 10 to 20 years, or even more. And that’s with regularly being used all the time.

I also have a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus and I put the pedals right next to each other. I can step on both at the same time and instantly switch from heavy metal distortion to a beautiful clean sound with chorus (a la Metallica), and then back.

I’ve had my Boss Metal Zone for about 15 years and have never had any issues with it. It’s an incredibly versatile distortion pedal (whether you’re playing Thrash-metal or Brit-pop). I’ve used other (cheaper) fuzz-boxes etc, but I always come back to the Boss. Well worth the money.

I’ve had this for about 11 years now. Even with some of the newer metal pedals on the market, this pedal still sells well. Not to mention, it’s probably also one of the most modded pieces out there. Any number of mods can be found online to change the sound. They’re usually on the side of improving the stock tone, which I’m happy with.

I’ve always liked the parametric EQ on this pedal. The variable midrange allows me to get Marshall or Mesa flavors. For most metal/hard rock music, the gain range is enough for me. If I need yet more gain, I punch it up with an overdrive, or a compressor pedal for a cleaner boost. Even without a boost, I can use it for death metal. I think if you play the tighter, more technical styles, it’s better not to have too much gain anyhow.

I have a lot of pedals… In fact, I have 2 distortion and 2 overdrive pedals (though only the MT2 and the OD3 are regularly in my rig.) This pedal won’t give you a “cranked up tube stack” sound. No… Instead, it’s very edgy and smooth as can be. It has a mid-sweep knob on it to help sculpt your tone. I usually use it as a mid-boost for solos. You’ll find that you get amazing sustain and a huge sound that you won’t be able to replicate (easily… I’m sure the huge Boss distortion box comes close, but for the price…) with any other pedal.

My son loved this distortion pedal. It was on his Christmas list and I shopped around – not wanting to get a cheap one but looking for the most value for my dollar. He loves it.
